DNS record types explained

  • A — maps a domain to an IPv4 address.
  • AAAA — maps a domain to an IPv6 address.
  • MX — specifies mail servers for the domain. See the MX record guide.
  • TXT — holds arbitrary text, commonly used for SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and domain verification.
  • CNAME — aliases one domain name to another.
  • NS — specifies the authoritative name servers for the domain.
